Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu said on Thursday that he saw openness from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) in trying to find solutions, and the priorities discussed with the Social Democrats were aimed at the budget revision and next year's budget.
'The immediate priorities which we have and which I have discussed with the PSD representatives - a budget revision which Romania needs, because otherwise we risk having problems with payments at the end of the year; a budget for 2027 which must be completed by the end of this year, the rating agencies are coming again at the beginning of next year; and, obviously, the observance of commitments which Romania assumed regarding the fiscal trajectory, a better collection and protecting investments and jobs,' Niculescu said at the central headquarters of the PSD, after the meeting with the Social Democrat leaders.
He was asked what the 'red lines' drawn by the PSD were.
'I will not talk about red lines, I will leave it to Mr Grindeanu to make the statements regarding what the Social Democratic Party said. However, I say openness in trying to find solutions. As I said, we are in a quite complicated situation, it is important to have a Government with full powers quickly,' Niculescu said.
In respect to the future governing programme, Niculescu mentioned that 'the good things will be continued.'
'I will present a competent Government, in which those who are appointed must also have the skills to hold those positions. (...) I said I am not the person who comes in to erase the good things done before. We will continue the good things, the ones that need improvement we will improve. Any relaxation measures, if there are to be any, must be done in such a way as not to undermine the international commitments we have made and assumed, and which are to the benefit of Romania,' Luca Niculescu mentioned.
The Prime Minister-designate is meeting Thursday with the representatives of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), as part of the consultations on forming the Government and establishing the governing programme. The discussions are to take place at the headquarters of each party. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Dana Piciu; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
