Student Cezar Beniamin Rentea, from the 'Al. I. Cuza' National College Focsani, will be awarded 3,000 lei by the Focsani Municipality, after he won the Special Jury Prize and the Gold Medal at the 2026 edition of the International Applied Chemistry Olympiad (IACHO), held in Bandung, Indonesia.
The Focsani City Council approved, on Thursday, in an extraordinary meeting, the awarding of the special prize to the student, as a sign of appreciation and recognition for the performance achieved on the international stage of chemistry.
According to the report of necessity that was the basis of the draft decision, the Focsani City Hall and the Local Council annually award students who achieve outstanding results at the Olympiads and national and international school competitions.
Cezar Beniamin Rentea won the Special Jury Prize and the Gold Medal at the 2026 edition of the International Applied Chemistry Olympiad (IACHO), held in Bandung, Indonesia. Rentea is one of the most awarded young people from Vrancea county and Focsani municipality, being the winner of numerous contests and scientific competitions.
Upon the student's return to the country, the mayor of Focsani, Cristi Misaila, appreciated both his academic performance and his intention to return to Romania after completing his studies abroad.
'Beyond his dedication to academic performance and his ambition to study at the great universities of the world, I was happy to discover in Cezar a young man who loves his country. I was impressed by his desire to return home, to Romania, after completing his studies abroad. Young people like Cezar Beniamin Rentea prove to us that excellence in education is not it only means personal performance, but also the desire to contribute, through what they learn and build, to the future of Romania. We have the duty to support them and create the conditions for them to always want to return home,' said Mayor Cristi Misaila.
