The Save Romania Union (USR) will not engage in 'backroom deals' that would prolong 'the current agony,' USR leader Dominic Fritz told Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu on Monday.
The USR will no longer form a government with the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Fritz stressed at a press conference held at the party headquarters after his meeting with Niculescu.
'I told Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu that we will not engage in backroom deals that would prolong the current agony. Romanians deserve a government that takes responsibility and operates transparently, providing predictability and clarity regarding the measures it can implement. That is why the USR will no longer form a government with the PSD [Social Democratic Party], the party responsible for the deadlock we are facing and for the prices that are rising ever higher for all Romanians. This means we will not vote in favour of a government that includes PSD ministers,' the USR leader explained.
According to Fritz, the USR was 'open to considering' a National Liberal Party (PNL) - Save Romania Union (USR) - Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) government led by Luca Niculescu.
'I have seen in the public domain that Sorin Grindeanu is also open to such an option. This could be the solution we need to break the deadlock. We believe that all the constitutional conditions for early elections have been met. If this government fails to secure a committed majority, while a separate majority between the PSD and AUR [the Alliance for Romanians' Union] operates in parallel in Parliament, then early elections would be the healthiest solution for the country and the most honest one towards its citizens,' Dominic Fritz said.
