President Nicusor Dan spoke by phone on Tuesday with European Council President Antonio Costa about key-topics on the agenda of the Council meeting scheduled for October 15-16.

'The Council's agenda is very packed because we have many important files to discuss, ranging from boosting economic competitiveness and energy prices to the Union's future budget,' the head of state wrote on Facebook.

According to him, Romania seeks an ambitious budget, even if additional resources at the Union level are required to support the competitiveness and defense pillars.

'At the same time, cohesion policies remain a priority for us,' he added.

Nicusor Dan noted that he also discussed European Union enlargement with Antonio Costa.

'We actively support the accession of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Moldovans, alongside Ukrainians, deserve to be part of the Union, and this would significantly enhance the security of Romania, the region, and the Black Sea,' the President emphasized.

Another topic addressed concerned the multiple security challenges, ranging from the Russian Federation's unjustified war in Ukraine to tensions in the Gulf, he further announced.

'I am confident that, together with the other heads of state, we will succeed in making progress on all these important issues,' was Nicusor Dan's message. AGERPRES(RO - writing by: Georgiana Tanasescu; EN - writing by: Bogdan Gabaroi)
