The National Liberal Party's (PNL) participation in the Government is not a favour to the Social Democratic Party (PSD), but the right decision for Romania, PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu said on Saturday.
'Mr Bolojan, the economic deadlock and the hardships Romanians are facing will not disappear simply because you choose to treat them with irony. People's dissatisfaction with the direction the country is heading in is not something the PSD has made up. Rising prices are putting pressure on family budgets, wages are no longer keeping pace with prices and companies are feeling the effects of the economic downturn we are experiencing ever more acutely. You cannot pretend not to see the consequences of the policies you have supported!,' Grindeanu conveyed to PNL leader Ilie Bolojan.
He mentioned that 'a change of direction does not mean promising that all problems will be solved overnight.'
'It means acknowledging that the measures adopted have not delivered the expected results and having the political will to correct them through a realistic governing programme that protects Romanians' money. The PNL's participation in Government is not a favour to the PSD, but the right decision for Romania,' Sorin Grindeanu wrote on his Facebook page.
On Friday, Sorin Grindeanu said that 'the PSD supports rebuilding a stable majority alongside the PNL and the UDMR and is ready to assume responsibility for governing.'
The PNL leader, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, replied that Romania meeds a functioning Government and that the PNL is open to contributing to its formation, but would not agree to repeat political arrangements that had proved not to work.
Ilie Bolojan said that the refusal to govern with the PSD was not a matter of pride or political calculations, but a lesson the PNL had learnt over the past year. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Alina Novaceanu; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
