Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church sent a message to Pope Leo XIV on Monday, wishing him 'plenty of help from God' with the health issues he faces.

'In this time of trial, we pray to our Lord Jesus Christ, the Healer of our souls and bodies, to relieve Your Holiness's suffering and grant you good health, so that you may continue your pastoral and missionary work. We also wish Your Holiness plenty of help from God in overcoming the health issues you are facing,' the head of the Romanian Orthodox Church said.

Pope Leo XIV is to be admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday morning for surgery to remove a small lung nodule, the Vatican Press Office announced on Monday, according to international news agencies.

The Holy See did not say whether the Pope would undergo surgery on the same, or on the following day.

On Sunday, the 71-year-old Pope revealed that the small nodule had been discovered during a recent medical check-up. He said it was 'well localized' and had been detected at an early stage. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Popescu; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
